Introduction to Production Management
Module objectives and intended study results:
The students
- develop an understanding of the importance of the production function for every organization that provides goods or services,
- gain insights into managerial decisions made when designing and managing the production process,
- acquire knowledge of key concepts and have the ability to apply essential methods for decision making in production management,
- are encouraged and empowered to independent and self-reliant work.
Content:
Production Management deals with the process of creating goods and services. It is an exciting area with many job opportunities. This class provides students with a broad understanding of the role of operations in companies and introduces the main decision areas for designing and managing the production process. Topics covered include process design and capacity management, facility location and layout as well production planning and inventory control, scheduling, as well as quality management. While not entirely quantitative in its approach, participants are expected to have an appropriate level of mathematical knowledge.
